For those members that are Tenants, until each member gets placed into a Home through “The American Dream Affordable Homeownership Program”:

  • Grievances Addressed Promptly

  • Moving? Review your New Rental Agreement before making a decision

  • Moving? Once S.A.F.E. is notified, we inform your New landlord or property manager you are a member of S.A.F.E.

  • As a member we will do our best to help locate you a place to live if you ever encounter a situation in which you are affected by a natural disaster.

  • Written Letter to Landlord or Property Manager that you are a member of S.A.F.E. that we will mediate for our member and our member is covered by our Protection Advocacy Policy

  • Inspection of your property (by physical, video, or photo)

  • Written Letters or Phone calls to inquire from your Landlord or Property Manager to what their issue is in remedying any problems that may occur

  • Written Letters or Phone calls to mediate and make arrangements with Landlord or Property Manager to solve any grievance

  • Documenting all correspondence between S.A.F.E. and Landlord or Property Manager

  • Documentation of your remedied grievance once resolved

  • Mediate with Landlord or Property Manager for appliance repair or replace

  • Mediate with Landlord or Property Manager for repairs done to premises

  • If no response from Landlord or Property Manager assist (where and when legal) in appliance repair or replacement

  • If no response from Landlord or Property Manager assist (where and when legal) in repairs done to premises

  • In case of any notices (3,30,60 day etc.) or an eviction we will work to help locate legal representation for member (where available)

Process for On boarding Union Members:

The process to become a member of S.A.F.E. Housing Union is a Five (5) step process.

Step 1: Complete and Submit the Online Pre-Application

Step 2: You will receive information on a scheduled interview, this will either be via phone, or via a platform similar to zoom. We will email you with your Interview time and date, if this doesn’t work for you please email us back to reschedule your interview for a more convenient time.

Step 3: After your interview we will contact you via email with either an approval with further information, and your code; or a denial with the reason why (this doesn’t happen often)

Step 4: Complete your Application and submit it, and pay the application fee and your monthly membership.

Step 5: Once we receive payment we will send you an email with your welcome package and your membership number.

*Members MUST understand that EVERY monthly membership payment will be credited to your home purchase through “The American Dream Affordable Homeownership Program”, however if at any time a member needs assistance with services that require payment, such as retaining an attorney, fighting an unlawful eviction or foreclosure, the amount for the services required will come out of the monthly payments first, anything left, or if additional payments are made after the services are rendered, those will begin going towards the purchase of your home once again.
